Dropdown

You can use a dropdown component to allow users to select one option from a long list.

Before you use a dropdown

Some users find dropdowns hard to use. Don't use a dropdown if:

• users might need to select more than one option, use checkboxes instead

• your question only has a few options, use radio buttons instead

• you can ask your question in a way which reduces the number of options or if you can split the question into simpler questions with fewer options, where you can use radio buttons instead

With hint

You can add hint text to help the user understand the options and choose one of them.

Keep hint text to a single short sentence, without any full stops.

With error

Display an inline error when there's something wrong. For example, when a user tries to proceed without selecting an option and the question is mandatory.
